The traditional ruler of Effurun-Otor Kingdom in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, Chief Eyareya Oghenejenavwo Ogbogbo, has appealed to the Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan to intervene in the current tussle for the Ovie (King) of Uvwie stool in other to avoid mayhem in Uvwie Local Government Area.
The Effurun-Otor monarch recalled that after the demise of the last Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom, late Johnson Uvwiekoko Edjekohwo, Eruowho 11 in 2003, a vacuum was created on the throne of the kingdom.
He explained that during the period, one of the contenders to the throne from the Abe family instituted a legal action challenging the nomination of any person by his family as their choice for the kingship.
According to him, in the midst of this court action, the Eruowho Ruling House also instituted a legal action in court claiming that the title of Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom was exclusive to their family since their forebear Uvwaro was given the regalia, comprising staff of office, a crown, a wide bladed cutlass and one shieldlike sword by the Oba of Benin who proclaimed him as the Ovie of Uvwie.
The monarch regretted that the Uvwie Caretaker Committee Chairman, Dr. Robert Ejifoma, in total and complete disregard of court order orchestrated the suspension of the Regent of Uvwie Kingdom, Chief. D. D. Atiyota Egere, and Chief J.M. Urhobodoro, Secretary of the Uvwie Traditional Council of Chiefs, from office on grounds that they refused to comply with court order to heed his directive to install a new Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom.
"It is in the light of the above, Your Excellency, that I respectively appeal to your good self to intervene in this matter by stopping the Caretaker Committee Chairman from taking any steps to unlawfully install or parade any person as the Ovie of Uvwie kingdom whilst the parties patiently await the judgment of the court." The Effurun-Otor monarch said.
