Julius Berger Plc, one of the major Construction Company working in the Niger Delta region in the early morning of yesterday had one of its working expatriates who is an engineer by profession (both names withheld) abducted by some die-hard militants along Yenagoa-Port Harcourt Express-way in an unusual commando manner which saw the residents of Rumuorji village scampering for safety.
While frightened motorists abandoned their vehicles, mother luck refused to smile on the faces of the soldiers who were attached to the expatriate as they tried in vain to save the life of their "boss" who was not only dragged out of his vehicle, but was mercilessly beaten before being taken away by the group of gangsters in their car.
BAYELSANEWS.BLOGSPOT.COM authoritatively gathered that the soldiers who were two in number were drafted from the Joint Task Force (JTF) to protect and guard the expatriate who is a senior staff of the construction giant.
The source further revealed that when the militants stopped the vehicle conveying the expatriate in a bid to abduct him to their camp, the soldiers quickly challenged them which resulted in heated argument between the soldiers and the militants.
However, in the midst of the brawl that ensured, the militants called for reinforcements which helped them to over-power the two soldiers and the helpless expatriate taken away unhurt; but one of the soldiers (names withheld) was killed in the fracas while the other was left seriously injured. He was later taken to Military Hospital along Aba Road in Port Harcourt for surgical medical attention.
JTF spokesman Lt. Col. Musa Sagir confirmed there was an incident of abduction involving a Julius Berger expatriate around Rumuorji village along the East-West Road, but was silent about the issue of the dead soldier attached to the expatriate.
However, the Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) DSP (Mrs) Ireju Barasua confirmed the incident
